Kia ora! Welcome back to this weeks blog post.
Our Goals are to
- Plan effectively, where appropriate, using a variety of strategies.
- Understand the purposes for writing and how to achieve those purposes.
For the past 2 weeks in writing we have been learning about how to make a picture book to read for younger kids. In our class we talked about: what a picture book needs and how it will entertain the young readers.
A picture book is a book for kids and they are fictional stories which are stories that aren’t real. There are multiple steps on what a picture book needs, they need to have a setting where this is all happening, a problem that leads to the climax, the exciting bit which is the climax, how they are going to solve the problem and a solution. Picture books not only need those but they also need to have characters kids want like: Mermaids, Fairy’s, animals etc.
Our task was to fill in a plan on what a picture book needs, it includes the setting, rising action, climax and solution, on the side there is also a vocabulary list which is what my picture book will include.
What else does a picture book need?
Hi Tianah,
I have loved reading your blog today. My favorite bit in it was how much you added to your writing plan. Next time you could add more about what you are going to write your book about and also how the book is for.
I think a picture book needs easy and big clear words to read easily and also that it needs lots of colourful pictures.
Keep up the great work.

Heya Tianah, its Regina! I love this post, I have a feeling your book is going to be great! You described things so perfectly. I like the inspiration from Shrek, because everyone loves Shrek. I would’ve liked for you to put a question at the end though. Amazing Blog and I can’t wait to see the final result! 😍
