The Dark side of Olympic Doping

Kia ora! This Term we have focused on Podcasting. We got the option 2 options it was either imovie or podcast and I chose podcast. In our podcast our main focus was on the Olympics.

For podcasting we had some people come in to teach us about it, we had three sessions and in these sessions we learnt about what we need and what we need to do on the podcast, I learnt that there is a lot of equipment you need in order for the podcast to be good.

For PBL we had to create a podcast about the Olympics and a specific topic we chose Doping because it was a very big part of the Olympics. In my group I had Shyanne, Calystah and Regina, we made a script and used Canva to create our podcast and we named it ‘The Dark Side of Olympics Doping’

What do you know about Olympic Doping?

History of Racism

Kia ora!

This week for PBL and Reading we have been learning about the history of Racism in the Olympics. We have been reading specifically about Jesse Owens. Jesse Owens is an athlete who competed in the Germany 1936 Olympics, he was an African American who was black, at this time WW2 was happening and since he was in Germany Berlin it wasn’t a good time to be in Germany.

Jesse Owen won four gold medals and when he went back to the US he was going to the White House and wasn’t allowed to go through the main door he had to go through the door servants went, Jesse Owen couldn’t even find a proper job because of his race he ended up being a gas station employee and a playground cleaner.

How do you feel about this?

Lisa Adams – Paralympics

Kia ora! It’s been a while since I have posted a blog post.

This term we have been learning about the Olympics, a few weeks ago we read about the ancient and modern Olympics but this week we are more focused on the Paralympics, we are learning about when it started, why it started and the athletes that are in it.

We have slides that we have to fill out throughout the week while we read about the Paralympics. Something new that I learnt about the Paralympics is that it started right after World War 2 because when the war was over there were  a lot of disabled people.

Our create task this week was to pick an athlete that was in the Paralympics and create some sort of device that will help them during the Paralympics. I chose Lisa Adams, she is a Shot Putter and Discus thrower. She was diagnosed with left leg hemiplegia which means she is paralyzed in her left leg, even though throwers use there arms they still need there legs for power so I created a device for her leg.

This is my create task

Olympic Timeline

Kia ora! Welcome back to another blog post this week we have 2 reading goals: Make connections between texts, using more sophisticated texts and identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about.

This week for reading we have been learning about the Modern and Ancient Olympics, but more of the Modern Olympics because we wanted to see the difference between now and the modern times.

For our create task we have to make a timeline about the Olympics, so I did mine on the Modern Olympics there are 6 pieces of information on the timeline that happened in the modern times.

Here’s my work

Do you anything about Modern Olympics?

Ancient Olympics

Kia ora! This week I will be blogging about what I imagine it would be like in the Ancient Olympics.

This week for reading, our hub has been learning and reading about the Ancient Olympics especially how different it was from now and back then.

The Ancient Olympics started in 776 BC (Before Christ) and ended in 393 AD (After Death). A lot has happened since then. In the track races they had to wear armor and carry a shield, for long jump they had to carry weights and they couldn’t run up and people  didn’t wear any clothes at all while competing.

Our create task is to imagine what it would: look, Taste, feel, hear, smell and feel. So after all the readings we have read we had to use our imagination and think of all those senses then we have to write a mini paragraph of what we thought in the moment.

How would you feel if you were in the Ancient Olympics?

Sand Dune Creator 2002

Kia ora! This week I am going to be blogging about my AI creation.

We had to make a diorama about the habitats we have learned about and since I went to the beach a few weeks ago I thought I’d make a blog post about it because I really enjoyed it. When we went to the beach we learned about sand dunes and how they help.

After my group and I finished the diorama we had to make an AI creation on how it can help our habitat. I used the Canva AI to create this robot image and then I put it on a Google drawing and how it works.

What creation would you make?

Sand dunes 👍

Kia ora! Welcome back to this week’s blog post.

Last week on Tuesday my group and I went on a little trip to Sumner Beach to look at the sand dunes and learn why sand dunes are there and how they  help. Sand dunes are there because it helps stop the flooding from other houses that are near the beach, but some people don’t like it because it blocks their ocean view in the morning.

We split into 5 groups and our mission was to make a mini sand dune but it wasn’t near the water because we weren’t allowed, after we made our sand dune he told us more about the dunes, then he gave us a sand fence and a sand ladder, the sand ladder the helps you climb up the sand and the fence blocks the sand from coming on the road.

We also learned about the different types of native insects/birds and plants but I forgot the names of them.

What I enjoyed on the trip was building the sands dunes then destroying it and when we were on the bus ride back my friends and I were playing tic tac toe and figuring out Sudoku puzzles but my friends did most of the Sudoku puzzle.

Do you know any species that live in the sand dunes?

City Redesign

Kia ora! This week I am going to be blogging about my reading create. Our reading goal is to use knowledge from text to combine with new ideas (own and others) to come up with new thinking.

In reading we have been learning about Urban development, if you don’t know what Urban development is, it is basically expanding buildings on top of lands to make it bigger. It is bad for us because it is taking away land and it is releasing more greenhouse gas’ because of cars and it is not good for us.

We had three options for our create task,

  1. Urban Development Game Design: Create a game simulating urban challenges, promoting strategic thinking.
  2. Cityscape Redesign: Redraw a Christchurch area to tackle urban issues, integrating green spaces and public transport.
  3. Issue Solution Poster: Design a poster highlighting a Christchurch urban issue and offering a solution.

Me and my buddy chose to do the redesign of the city.

Here is my create task

What do you know about Urban development?

Statistical investigation

Kia ora! This week for maths we have been learning something new, it is Statistical investigation.

Statistical investigation is when you record data and put it on a graph. In workshops we have these data cards with peoples names, how long they watch TV for, how long they read, if they have Snap chat or Facebook and if they have a phone. Before we read them we have to make predictions before we put them in a graph.

Our create task was to make our own question, put it on a graph and make a statement, my question is ‘What is your favourite sport?’ and I put options they were Basketball, Hockey, Netball, Football, Rugby and others for people who don’t play any, after we put them on a graph and make a statements about them.

What do you know about Statistical investigation?

Pentecost slides

Kia ora! Welcome to this week’s blog post.

Since this week is about Pentecost, if you don’t know what Pentecost is, it is when the Holy Spirit came down to the disciples which is when fire went on there heads and gave them the ability to speak foreign to spread the word about Jesus.

Our create task was to make slides about Pentecost and write about the four most important events and explain what happened.

What do you know about Pentecost?
